The magic that is Harpo Marx
Adolph Arthur Marx
(November 23, 1888 –
September 28, 1964)
arpo Marx... was a magical man... the kind of man
you'd want to have as a friend and have your children meet him, too. I never met
him, though, since I was a young man (16 yrs old) 6,000 miles away when he died
in 1964.
But when I came to United States in 1972 and was introduced to the Marx
Brothers in a show of "Animal Crackers" at a theater in Boston, I had an
epiphany of how I was to get to know the great and mighty United States America.
The Marx Brothers was a powerhouse that easily and boldly redefined the social
strata of their day. They bridged the gap from elitism to humility and opened
the floodgates allowing the rest of us to march right on in. And so we did.
The magic that is Harpo Marx, the silent one, is rooted in a remarkable passion
for all things beautiful. Through his music, he tied the essence of his own
existence into a world where innocence is king. He needed only to play. No words
were necessary.
The simplicity of his musical dexterity creates a paradox of complex inflections
that penetrate deep into one's soul, moving about graciously... as it becomes
easy to understand the world that's instantly being created.
